Bukhara

Sacred Bukhara is one of the most esteemed cities of Islamic civili­zation. Such outstanding theologians as imam al-Bukhari, al- Gijduvani, Saif ad-Oin Bokharzi and Baha ad-Din Naqshband preached here in the Middle Ages. In 10th—11th centuries Bukhara was the capital of the Samanid state, since the 16th century— capital of Bukhara khanate. The last amir of Bukhara was dethroned in 1920 and Bukhara Republic was founded. In 1925 Bukhara  became a part of Uzbek SSR, and in 1991—a part of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Historical center of Bukhara was entered in the UNESCO's list of the World Heritage.
