Madrasah of  Abdul Aziz-Khan

The madrasah was built in the middle of 17th century opposite to Ulugbeg Madrasah and surpassed it in size and decor. Abdulaziz (died in 1681) was a member of Bukhara Astarhanid dynasty (1601-1747). This is a traditional madrasah with two floors of hudjras around the yard and a mosque on the central axis. The high portal was decorated with pictures of fantastic birds flying to the sun. Its semi-octahedral arch is filled with stalactites. Mosaic with characteristic motif of a blossoming bush in a vase makes external decor. Underdome stalactite systems, complex "sails" and various paintings decorate the interior.
