Necropolis of Khiva Khans

Muhammad-Rahim-khan I reconstructed Pahlavan-Mahmud's mausoleum so, that necropolis of Qungrad dynasty arose “at the feet" of the "Khiva's saint”. Pahlavan-Mahmud's tomb is situated behind a low fence in the western wing and tomb of Muhammad- Rahim-khan I was built on the central axis of the mausoleum in a pentahedral niche. Later, in 1825, there was built the eastern wing where Allakuli-khan (1825-1842) was buried. Gravestones of these three tombs are decorated with elegant majolica.

The marble gravestone of Abulgazi-khan (1603-1664) and probable gravestone of Anush-khan with date of death "1681" were brought into the mausoleum. Its portal pylon has a marble plate with an epitaph to a courtier of Ilbars-khan II (1728-1740). Another Khiva khan Asfendiyar prepared in advance a big family tomb in korikhona of Pahlavan-Mahmud Necropolis. His mother Kutlugbiki-khanum was buried in that dahma. However, Asfendi- yar-khan was not. He died out of Ichan-Qala and Khiva tradition did not let the dead body leave the city.
